Startup Website Design for the Company You're Becoming

Strategy - Art direction - Web development

/STATEMENT

Your round is announced. Your homepage is two years old.

Good startup website design gets tested on the worst possible day: the morning your round is announced. Hundreds of people click through within hours.

A partner at another fund wants to see if you are worth tracking. A senior engineer wonders whether to take your recruiter's call. An enterprise buyer checks whether procurement will approve you.

Most of them land on a homepage built before any of this happened. It still describes the product you pitched two years ago.

Every visitor leaves with an impression, and few of them come back to update it.

We launched it and moved on.

A line we hear often in first calls. Six months later, the careers page lists filled roles and the pricing page describes an old plan.

/TRAPS

Where startup websites go wrong

These mistakes rarely come from a lack of taste. They come from building for the wrong moment, and they surface when you can least afford a rebuild.

  • /1

    Borrowed credibility

Logos from pilots that never converted, stock photos for the team, metrics with no source. One unverifiable claim makes every other claim suspect.

  • /2

Launch day as the finish line

The site goes live and nobody owns it. No analytics goals, no update routine. A startup site is a product surface and needs an owner.

  • /3

    One homepage for every buyer

Each new segment broadens the headline until it says nothing. Keep the homepage on the core promise and give each segment its own page.

Choose the stack for the site you will need at Series A, not the one you need this month.

/BENEFITS

Built to grow from first customer to Series A

Each rebuild is tied to a business milestone, not a press date. The foundations are set once, so every next version is an upgrade, not a teardown.

  • /1

    Rebuilds tied to milestones

First customers, first hires, first enterprise deal, first foreign market. Each one tells us what the site has to prove next.

  • /2

    Ready for procurement

Security page, named references, company facts. A procurement analyst finds answers without emailing you.

  • /3

    Server-rendered from day one

Your value proposition sits in the initial HTML, so search engines, social previews and AI crawlers all read it.

  • /4

Careers pages that win the comparison

Candidates research on a big screen, tabs open side by side. Real faces, current roles and a clear stack make the difference.

  • /5

    Marketing ships on its own

A structured CMS lets your team assemble pages from approved components. Nobody waits on a sprint to post a new role.

  • /6

    Accessible by design

Accessibility built in from the start reaches more people and costs far less than a retrofit after the next rebuild.

Projects that led with positioning

Altitude 101, a Paris production company that worked with Nike, Google, Puma and Paris 2024, pivoted toward immersive formats for Apple Vision Pro. The site carried that shift before the work caught up. Techunt, an AI, Web3 and blockchain recruiter, gained an identity and a site that make its niche readable at a glance.

/FAQ

Startup website design: questions founders ask most

The questions founders bring to our first call, with straight answers.

At seed, a custom brand site typically starts around €8,000 to €10,000, based on the ranges we publish. The real question is sequencing. Spend first on a clear message and a solid structure that will carry future pages. Leave heavy animation, extra languages, and complex integrations for later. A smaller site built to grow is a better investment than a lavish one you will rebuild in a year.

It depends on what you need beyond the build. A strong freelancer can deliver a sharp site with a tight scope. A studio brings brand, design, and development together, which matters when identity is still being defined. Look at work for companies at a similar stage. Then ask who will own strategy, art direction, and code. If one person covers all three, check the portfolio closely.

At minimum, a homepage with one clear promise, a page explaining how the product works, and a way to reach you. As you grow, add an About page with real faces, customer stories, and a careers page. Selling to larger companies also calls for a security page. Add segment pages when you serve distinct buyers. Each page should answer a question visitors are already asking.

For a placeholder page, yes, and quickly. The limits show up once your positioning matters. Generated sites tend to look like each other, and differentiation is exactly what a startup lacks in its first years. Use AI to move fast, then invest where it shapes perception.

It needs the foundations from day one, even if content comes later. That means server-rendered pages, clean URLs, real page titles, and a sitemap. These cost almost nothing when built in, and a lot to retrofit. Search visibility compounds slowly, so the earlier the structure is right, the sooner your future content can rank. Publishing can wait until you have something worth saying.

When a business milestone changes who reads it, not when it starts to feel old. A first enterprise deal, a new market, or a pivot are strong reasons. A competitor's redesign is not. Before committing, check whether targeted updates would close the gap. A full website redesign makes sense when structure, not just content, is holding you back.
